The effect of Inventory Record Inaccuracy in Information Exchange Supply Chains
نویسندگان
چکیده
Thegoal of this paper is toquantify the impact of InventoryRecord Inaccuracyon thedynamicsof collaborative supply chains, both in terms of operational performance (i.e. order and inventory stability), and customer service level. To do so, we model an Information Exchange Supply Chain under shrinkage errors in the inventory item recording activity of their nodes, present the mathematical formulation of such supply chain model, and conduct a numerical simulation assuming different levels of errors. Results clearly show that Inventory Record Inaccuracy strongly compromises supply chain stability, particularlywhenmoving upwards in the supply chain. Important managerial insights can be extracted from this analysis, such as the role of ‘benefit-sharing’ strategies in order to guarantee the advantage of investments in connectivity technologies. © 2014 Published by Elsevier B.V. Evaluation of Supply Chains with Inventory Record Inaccuracy and Implications on IT Investments
Inventory record inaccuracy deteriorates supply chain performance because it leads to ineffective replenishment decisions. Conducting cycle counts (i.e., periodic inventory auditing) is a common approach to correct inventory records. It is not clear, however, how inaccuracy at different locations affects supply chain performance and how an effective cycle-count program for a multi-stage supply ...
متن کاملA Hybrid Dynamic Programming for Inventory Routing Problem in Collaborative Reverse Supply Chains
Inventory routing problems arise as simultaneous decisions in inventory and routing optimization. In the present study, vendor managed inventory is proposed as a collaborative model for reverse supply chains and the optimization problem is modeled in terms of an inventory routing problem. The studied reverse supply chains include several return generators and recovery centers and one collection...
متن کاملA Literature Review on the Impact of Inventory Data Record Inaccuracies on Inventory Management and the Potential of the Rfid Technology to Tackle This Issue
The impact of the use of RFID on supply chain operations has been explored in several investigations. One of the main benefits of RFID that is identified by these studies is its ability to improve visibility in supply chains by enabling a better synchronization between the physical flow of goods and the information flow representing it. In this work, our focus is steered on data record inaccura...

متن کاملVMI-type Supply Chains: a Brief Review
The primary purpose of this paper is to highlight for the research community and practitioners the various aspects of using VMI-type supply chains in today’s business environment as well as a number of directions for future studies. In this regard, fifty articles published in major international journals, beginning in 1995, which contribute to the VMI-type supply chains are reviewed via a syste...
